I have been writing a poem a day over on Kat Apel’s Month of Poetry but not getting them posted back here every day. White Dog isn’t the only creature that inspires me – insects, although I am a bit bug phobic, do intrigue me. I often wonder what they are thinking, muse about what I can learn from them. This poem found me while I was on retreat one year. I have reworked it a bit and shared it over on #MoP12 as well.
Insect Inspiration
funny
the seat I chose is next to a caterpillar
inching his way by
on a journey somewhere
where is he going?
in search of food….or something much greater?
he moves so quickly for his size
soon he is out of sight altogether
what could he be trying to tell me?
it is all about the journey
explore – always look for more
never believe you’re at the end of the line
beyond the next corner is more than you could ever have imagined
never be satisfied with status quo
keep going or you may miss out
be curious
go!
This warm winter weather has the squirrels romping and white dog chomping. From behind the glass the squirrels taunt as white dog circles and whimpers to be let out. The door opens and he goes flying – not deterred by deep leaf piles or puddles or fallen branches. The squirrels scamper away and the taunting…

I have been so consumed with my day job that I haven’t had a chance to do much here on White Dog Haiku. But I am pleased to announce that I am joining a few writing groups that will kick my writing back up in the new year …..and if they interest you, join in…

I am always amazed how without the use of English, Islay Bear seems to be able to communicate exactly what he is thinking. We have been doing a lot of travelling lately – up and down to NYC for my day job, to Portland on vacation, to Boston for Holy Cross events that he can’t…

Unfortunately White Dog was unable to come with us on this particular journey but since it is honing my craft as a writer I couldn’t help but blog about it here. I am at the Highlights Foundation’s 2011 Writers Workshop at the Chautauqua Institute. It is a magical place where celebrity children’s book authors like…

My photographer friend Ursula Jorch has embarked on what she calls an intentional nomad’s life. She got clear on who she was, is shedding the things that no longer serve her, and is living in the moment more than anyone I know moving from place to place experiencing all there is to experience, open to…

Today’s Domino Project Trust30 writing challenge has me thinking about five years ago. Five years ago at this time David and I were putting final plans on our wedding which was to be in August 2006. We were selling the condo in Dobbs Ferry and moving up to Columbia County, the weekend home we bought in…

Thank you #Trust30 Domino Project! Such a great thing to ruminate on and I love the idea of writing it all down, deciding how to overcome the obstacles, and getting on with it! I have taken some bold steps to become a writer, set up this blog, participate in Children’s Book writing groups and conferences,…

Another interesting challenge from the #Trust30 folks. If you had one week left to live, what would you stop doing? I have been thinking about this and there’s only one thing on my list. My day job - the thing that takes a majority of my time right now. For so long I thought it…
